This clinic is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with primary and secondary pulmonary hypertension. Services include diagnostic evaluation such as chest xrays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, cardiac catheterization, vasodilator challenge, 6-minute walk test, echocardiogram, etc.

We currently prescribe all three FDA-approved specific therapies for pulmonary hypertension: bosentan (Tracleer), treprostinil (Remodulin), and epoprostenol (Flolan). Treprostinil was formerly known at UT-15. In addition, most of our patients take one or more of the following: digoxin (Lanoxin), warfarin (Coumadin), oxygen supplementation, and diuretics (e.g. Lasix, Aldactone, Zaroxolyn, etc). Some even take sildenafil (Viagra).

One of our studies was recently funded by United Therapeutics, Inc., the makers of Remodulin. The study is titled STAPLES: Subcutaneous Treprostinil Associated Pain: Lidoderm Evaluation Study. Starting April 2003, we will be enrolling patients who suffer from pain from Remodulin administration.
